Inca Trail Sponsored Treks
From time to time people trek the Inca Trail to raise
funds for Project Peru. Sometimes they combine this with a stint
as a volunteer or just visit us at the refuge to see some of the
work they have been supporting.
If you are planning to do the Inca Trail and would
like raise funds this way for Project Peru you can make your own
sponsor page online by clicking here.
If you want to sponsor a trekker and support our refuge you can

The Inca Trail
Peru's best known trek leads through the Andes above the Urubamba
river, following (at least partly) the course of an old Inca roadway
combining visits to archaeological sites, amazing mountain scenery
and lush cloud forests, with the highlight of reaching the unforgettable
site of Machu Picchu.

You could choose a travel insurance company, travelandinsure.com,
that has teamed up with Trade
Aid UK to support aid projects with the money raised through
the sale of their insurance policies. Trade Aid are committed to
helping people who are deprived of the basic necessities of life.

We are working in association with Chimu
Adventures; so why not book your trip through them, and also
see how you can help us to go on helping Peru and maybe see some
of our work in Peru?
Would you really prefer to trek past poverty in Peru…or
enjoy helping us to go on helping Peru? Fabulous
Peru & The Other Reality.
The Inca Trail is very over booked at times and all
permits can be sold out; there are alternative routes to Machu Picchu
recommended by the Cusco Institute of Cultural Heritage such as
the Salkantay to Machu Picchu trek as well as the Lares trek.
For other ways of supporting Project Peru through
doing the Inca Trail visit Prolific
Adventures.
People considering doing the Inca Trail and other
treks in Peru might find it interesting to look at www.peruweb.org/porters
as, though no longer operational, it was a project about setting
standards for supporting Andean porters, their equipment, working
conditions, health and safety, the treatment of porters, inter-relationships
etc; it would normally be good to check if any group that you may
be involved with can give some confirmation or guarantee that such
guidelines etc were being followed. Much of the information on the
website such as the environmental guidelines for trekkers and porter
and animal driver welfare guidelines remains relevant.
