Project Peru is a UK-based registered charity which works
directly with our project partner in Peru. Its aims are to
provide financial and material support, while at the same
time encouraging voluntary effort and raising awareness of
development issues in a Latin American context.
The Project was founded in 1992 as an Anglo-Peruvian
effort to address some of the enduring issues that Peru faces.
It focuses on a tangible initiative that has a potential to
reflect both the immediate and longer term needs of its beneficiaries.
We always try to respond to their expressed needs in the light
of the social, economic and political climate in Peru.
The focal point of the Project in Peru is at
Zapallal,
near Lima, where we have established a refuge from poverty
and disadvantage. We regularly provide food, shelter and support
for children and families in need. We also distribute a variety
of supplies both in the refuge and the interior of Peru.
Our web site aims to provide a comprehensive
insight into how the two elements work together in harmony
on a daily basis in spite of difficulties which, on the face
of it, might seem insurmountable.

Project Peru started some new building
work during July / August 2005 to allow us to take in
some more children and help us to prepare them all for
more independent living when they leave our care. This
is ongoing work which is still making active progress
in 2008; to see an update on this progress click here.

From time to time we welcome volunteers
at the refuge in Peru. We will nearly always try to
discuss this face to face before selection, and would
encourage volunteers to be actively engaged with us
before going. Though there is no formal charge we require
volunteers to raise money for us to support the ongoing
costs of our work and to cover the costs of their own
stay. We can give advice on this. Many volunteers raise
sponsorship money for us by doing the Inca
Trail. There is a whole range of activities that
volunteers may be engaged in, and the more varied the
skills that a volunteer can offer (plus a working knowledge
of Spanish), the better.

Not only is the Amazon now officially the longest river in the world, but no-one has ever walked it from source to mouth. Ed Stafford aims to be the first man to achieve this...while raising sponsorship for Project Peru . To sponsor him online click here. For more information on the expedition which started on 1st April 2008 visit www.walkingtheamazon.com. Ed has now successfully finished walking through Peru. |

Project Peru supporters raising money through sponsored events and activities can now raise money quickly and easily online with
their own personalised web pages. For example, are you doing the Inca Trail? Why not raise sponsorship for us that way? Would you really prefer to trek
past poverty in Peru...or enjoy helping us to go on helping Peru? Fundraising for Project Peru
