Manteca
Salsa-Merengue-Cumbia-Cha Cha Cha-Latin Jazz
Manteca is the outfit of Colombian lead singer Martha
Acosta who formed CANDELA in 1990 and then Chili Rojo in1998.
This exciting band is the powerful combination of CANDELA and the
fresh input of Argentinian bass player Don Fiora.
The prime line-up (5 piece) comprises keyboard, sax
and drum kit performed by top musicians of the Latin scene plus
of course Don Fiora on bass and Martha on vocals and "guiro".
They are real fire, but when adding loads of brass and percussion
(up to 10 piece, subject to availability) this becomes an explosive
mixture!
Their repertoire consists of the whole array of the
Latin party-club moods
from cool cha-chas, sexy sambas, bossas,
great salsas...to the most funky and groovy Latin soul with a splash
of Jazz, funk, soul and Drum & Bass.
The name came from the '70s and Dizzy Gillespie's
great Latin jazz standard. Manteca means "butter" and
they are internationally renowned for seriously raising your chloresterol
as you groove to sensational salsa, sizzling samba and the best
funky Latin jazz and soul vibes around. Dare to be a wall-flower!
Manteca pioneer a fresh and exhilarating style. Manteca
is an expression of the eclectic and ever-changing musical culture
in the UK, combined with a love for funky 70’s Nuyorican beats.
It's the definitive, most important ingredient to add to any Latin
flavour event.
