Peru on $1 a day:
a rough guide to living

Exhibition at Secretts
Poverty is a violation of human rights. The Peru Support Group's photographic exhibition, "Peru on $1 a day: a rough guide to living", which is sponsored by CIIR and Christian Aid, is a visual display of strong images taken by established photographers both from Peru and the UK. The photographs highlight the social, economic, environmental and political hardships faced by more than half of the Peruvian population who survive on a dollar a day or less.

Health, education and unemployment are essential services that are also affected by the pervasive poverty in Peru. This exhibition aims to raise awareness about issues of concern in Peru and will provide viewers with a deeper understanding of how poverty affects different sectors of Peruvian society.Exhibition at Secretts

Some of the informative text and statistics on our website describing the lives of the most vulnerable of Peruvian society - women, children and indigenous groups, as well as those living in rural and urban areas - is thanks to information provided by the Peru Support Group.

Project Peru has on a number of occasions used the Peru Support Group exhibition at a number of events in 2002, including "Hot Sounds in a Cool Garden" (7 July), Sizzling Samba on a Sunday (25 August), Sensational Salsa & Sunday Lunch (20 October) and An Evening with Vladimir Vega (16 November).
