Salsa & Strawberries Under The Stars

Project Peru with the ME Association invite you to enjoy 'Hot sounds on a cool river' - a fabulous evening of live salsa and Latin music with Martha Acosta & Manteca

The music:
'Manteca' play sensational salsa, sizzling samba and the best funky Latin jazz and soul vibes around. Led by the seriously stunning Colombian singer Martha Acosta http://www.myspace.com/marthacandela and Argentinian bassist Don Fiora, this line-up of saxes, trumpet, percussion and keyboards features London's finest Latin musicians. Mixing Latin music with a splash of Jazz, funk, soul and Drum & Bass, Manteca pioneer a fresh and exhilarating style. The occasion:
To give Ed and Luke a send-off on their amazing Amazon adventure; www.walkingtheamazon.com

Walking the Amazon
- the longest river in the world. In March 2008, Ed Stafford and Luke Collyer will leave for their expedition walking over 4,000 miles from the source of the Amazon in southern Peru to the mouth in Brazil. The expedition will be uninterrupted and unsupported. The aim is to use the expedition as an educational tool to raise awareness of climate change by collecting and broadcasting the different experiences of the Amazonian people that live and work in the Andean mountains and the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon adventure will raise funds for the ME Association and Project Peru who are jointly organizing this event and also for four other charities - Rainforest Concern, The ABC Trust, Cancer Research UK and National Outward Bound Trust.

On board HMS President (1918), Victoria Embankment, London EC4Y 0HJ www.hmspresident.com The President is moored right in the heart of the City of London, on the Victoria Embankment near Blackfriars Bridge. Nearest Underground- Blackfriars & Temple (District or Circle lines). Please note that due to the nature of the venue there are physical access limitations

The ME Association (Reg. Charity Number 801279) provides information, support and practical advice for people who are affected by ME/CFS and raises money for research into its causes: There are some 250,000 people in the UK with this devastating illness, the main symptoms of which are muscle (including brain) fatigue and general flu-like symptoms. Project Peru (Reg. Charity Number 1049413) is a small, lively, totally voluntary UK -based charity offering food, clothes, education, shelter and fun to those in need in a country where half the population exists on less than one dollar a day, focussing on running a refuge for children in the desert shanty towns near Lima, and offering practical support to community groups.
